I am searching for information on one of SQUIRE LACKEY's daughters, MARTHA D. LACKEY, born 1848, North Carolina.
In the 1850 Stokes Co., NC Census, I found the following:
Squire Lackey, b.1820
Letittia Lackey, wife
Susan Lackey, daughter, b.1843
William Lackey, son, b.1848
Martha D. Lackey, daughter, b.1849
I found a marriage for MARTHA D. LACKEY to RUFUS CAMPBELL on 7/17/1869, Stokes Co., NC.
Then, in the 1880 Peters Creek, Stokes Co., NC Census, it lists the following:
Rufus Campbell, b.1843, NC, age 37, Farmer
Martha D. Campbell, wife, b.1848, NC, age 32
Cora L. Campbell, dau., b.1870, NC, age 10
James H. Campbell, son, b.1873, NC, age 7
Physic Campbell, son, b.1874, NC, age 6
Rufus M. Campbell, son, b.1876, NC, age 4
John E. Campbell, son, b.1878, NC, age 2
Living about 10 dwellings away from the above Campbell family in this census are:
Leticia Lackey, b.1816, NC, age 64, Farmer, Widow
Paulina Lackey, daughter, b.1860, NC, age 20, Single
Dora L. Lackey, Granddaughter, b.1875, NC, age 5
John T. Lackey, Son, b.1862, NC, age 19, Farmer, Single
I think the Campbell's here are part of my Campbell line.
Rufus M. Campbell is found in the 1850 Stokes County census as age 7 (b. 1843). The birth year matches with the above 1880 census for Rufus.
Rufus Campbell and Martha D. Lackey-Campbell are living next door to Rufus' father, John Campbell, b.1802, in this 1880 census.
Just wondering if you have gotten any further information on this Lackey family that may connect to the Campbell's.
Another interesting note is that, on my mother's side, I have quite a few Lackey's from Crawford Co., Illinois, originating in South Carolina before 1820. Don't know if they are related to your Lackey's in North Carolina, though.
Hope you can offer some guidance!
Thanks in advance,
