Ray, I have hit upon some interesting views of George S. Lackey.
From some of the things I've been seeing, have you looked at the possiblity that his wife was Elizabeth Jane...and Betsy was her nickname?
Today I finally found my will for George S. Lackey, dated 1861 and recorded August 1867.
In 1850 census you find George S. Lackey, wife Jane, Alexander Co., NC pg 104.
living next door is Alexander A. Lackey and wife Edny and next to them is Fielding and Caroline Lackey McLain.
In the will George S. Lackey names his children, Caroline McLain, Nancy Mayberry, wife of Joel and son Daniel M. Lackey. In the will he states that Caroline is deceased.
This George S. Lackey in the 1850 census, lived not far from George H Lackey and his wife Susan.I believe this would truly make him suspect as the son of William, but it also keeps him in NC until his death. In the 1860 census, his daughter Nancy Mayberry now has a daughter named Elizabeth...possibly after her mother. We don't think of Betsy as the nickname for Elizabeth that much, as we see so many Liza, Eliza, etc.Let me know what you think
