I have done research on this family for many years.James Lacouture died in LA 12 Aug 1819.I think he must have met Rebecca Lea in S.C. (maybe after the RW) as Rebecca's father, William Elliott Lea was living in Chester Co., SC."Elliott" as he was mostly called had given her two slaves.
Rebecca and James had 4 children:Peter b. ca 1802, d. 26 Oct 1825 in Ouachita Parish, LA, I believe he left two children; Elizabeth b. ca 1805, m. Micajah Bone, d. 1837, LA; Lucilla b. 1805-1813 LA, m. 10 June 1836 to Jack(Pierre)(John)Hamilton/D'Ambleton/Hambleton, d. 1869-1870 Bradley Co., AR.; James b. ca 1819 Ouachita Parish, LA, d. in Bradley Co. AR 4 Oct 1848, m. in 1845 and had a boy named Frank and girl named Mary.Jack, Lucilla and James left for AR about 1839 as they are listed on the 1840 Census for Union County, Pennington Township.
I think James Lacourture might have been part of the French troops that come to help in the RW but that is just a wild guess.I also think that maybe that is why he ended up in LA, with the Post there at Monroe.
I have information on the family of Lucilla and James, if you are family.
