I have been doing family research for almost 30 years.When I first started, you had to write letters to find out anything. When I would hear from anyone telling me about their family I made a file card on them. Here is the fruits of my file cards. HA!

Lived Pike Co. IL in 1839
s/o William b. 1755 Live Orange Co. NC
Children:
Jacob - Robert - David - William - Washington - Samuel - Sarah - Ruhanna. Susan you will not be able to get a birth certificate for him, they did not have them until afther 1911. You might be able to get a birth record from church records or just go by the dates given on the tombstone. I know that is not always right.I notice that we have different dates also.I usualy go by the date with a day, month and year, may find out that's not right.Write abt. in front of the date then you know there is doubt.

This is all I know about them but maybe it will help.
