Re: Philemon, son of Henry Jr. Lacy
I wanted to share a few things on Philemon of McMinn County that you may or may not have but will help in putting a birthyear or at least an approximate birthyear for Philemon. In the 1830 census Philemon and his wife are both listedas 70-80 years old and in the 1820's you have them both Philemon and Esther listed as members of Pond Creek Bapatist Church in Monroe County and in 1834 Esther was dismissed. I believe that they both were received by letter in 1824 but not sure of the year but will checka my notes. The other time I have Philemon and Esther both on a Church Membership is in 1776 when they are both listed as members of the Matrimony Creek Baptist Chuch in Rockingham County North Carolina along with Edward Daniel and his wife Ann. This Edward I believe is a brother to Esther and this Edward also died leaving a will in Grainger County Tennessee and one of his daughters was named Esther.
Knowing that Philemon and Esther were both members of the Matrimony Creek Church in 1776 and the 1830 census tells me that Philemon and Esther were married by that time and probably in thier twentys which tells me that this Philemon was born between 1750-1755.
There is a Philemon Lacy that shows up in New Kent County Census and tax records from 1790-1820 and in 1820 he is listed as 45-over This would put his birthyear 1775 and before. I have seen this one being listed as the son of Henry Lacy Jr. but not sure.
I'm not even sure who the father of the Philemon in McMinn County born between 1750-1755 would be for sure. I know for sure he was in Rockingham County North Carolina and he may be the one that was also in Pittsylvania County in 1771, which is also the county that Theophilus Lacy was in for a time.
