Lafitte Family from Santiago de Cuba

There are Lafittes from Santiago de Cuba. Some migrated to Ponce, Puerto Rico in 1898. They trace their ancestry to Louisiana c. 1812. From there some arrived in Cuba. They believe that the Pirate Jean Lafitte was their ancestor. Anyone familiar with the Cuban Lafitte? They are intermarried with my family.
