I find that living close together is a tantalizing fact that can, and has for me, led to nothing.Loyd Lamphier's line had 3 chidren move to Clayton & Fayette county,IA in the mid to late 1850s and 1860s.There are at least 4 other Lamphier lines there. Loyd's children and a man, Norman Lamphiear and his descendants, have the largest presence with descendants living in those counties today. But none of the lines has been proven to have ever intermarried or to have known each other before moving to Clayton county. I know of 6 very active researchers from Clayton county families--all of us are surprised we can not find a connection between our families. If it exists, I am sure we will have to go back into the 1700s to find it-like maybe the grandfathers or greatgrandfathers of Loyd and Norman were related. We haven't yet determined Loyd's and Norman's fathers.
By the way one of the Clayton lines thinks her Lamphier, a female, may have been in Kane co, IL at the time of her marriage or maybe in Lake co, IL.
In terms of research, I have read the town records of Ripton, Vt.I have done census searches.I have looked for probate and land records for Ebenezer Lamphier. I have also searched VT vital records; the town records of Middlebury, Shorham, Cornwall, Bridport, and Woodstock and Hartland, Vt. I have access to several books on Addison and Windsor counties in my local library. I have other New England and New York ancestoral lines and so have covered a great deal of that area of the US as well as northern PA, northern IN and Michigan. I have some brief notes on the family you sent me information on but not all the details you had.
I am glad to have the information you provided on your Lamphier line.It really helps fill in some gaps. I am sure that any connection would have to be with Loyd's father-whoever that may be.
