Dear Stephanie,
A problem with many of the Land lines, including this one, is that they were constructed by collectors rather than researchers. As a result, the descendency is usually correct for only a few generatons back. Beyond that, it's
almost always just a lot of unacceptable guesswork mixed up with a few facts, and the whole of it badly flawed.
The Thomas Land who married Ann Sumpter is reported on the net to be descended from Joseph Land of New Castle, Delaware, Francis Land of Princess Ann County, Virginia, and Curtis Land of Charles City County, Virginia.
YDNA evidence proves what was previously proven by research - he's unrelated to Francis Land. Research has also proven there's not one iota of evidence even suggesting he's realted to the Delaware Lands, and he's certainly not descended from the Curtis Land line through the descendency given. All evidence found to date strongly indicates he's descended from a previously unresearched, and so an unknown, Land line.
As for his reported descendency from Thomas and Elenore McClanahan of the Chester District, there's nothing whatsoever, except for the surname Land, that even suggests a connection betwen Thomas Land, married to Ann Sumpter, and the Chester County Lands.
There's also nothing found that proves, or suggests, the Thomas Land in Chester County, South Carolina is the Thomas Land found earlier on two road orders in Augusta County, Virginia, or that the Elenore Land there was certainly surnamed McClanahan before marriage.
William Henry Land isn't a descendent of Thomas and Ann Sumpter Land. He's the son of an unknown Land who shared YDNA, and so shares a common ancestor, with Thomas Land, married to Ann Sumpter. William Henry Laned's ancestors in his paternal line are related to Thomas Land, husband of Ann Sumpter, but not descended from him. We're trying to identify them as part of trying to correctly identify the ancestors of Thomas Land.
It is possible Thomas Land, married to Ann Sumpter, wll connect somewhere to the Chester County Lands, but if he does, it will be through a shared ancestor, and neither his ancestors, not those of the Chester County Lands, are presently known.
If you haven't done so already, you might want to find a male in direct male line of descent from your Sumpter Land, and have his YDNA tested. That would tell you with certainty if you're related to Thomas Land, married to Ann Sumpter.
I'm sorry I wasn't able to help you, but appreciate your suggestion. I do thank you. And, of couse, I wish you lucjk in your research.
Always,
Lynn
