I cannot answer your question completely, but I know for a fact that the Mary Chew who was a DAUGHTER of Larkin Chew, Junior and his wife Mary Beverly married John Smith (a son of Maurice and Elizabeth Smith of Middlesex Co., VA and then King and Queen Co., VA....this was a branch of my mother's Smith family). Also, records seem to clearly show that the SISTER of Larkin Chew, Junior, who was also named Mary Chew, married Robert Johnston.So....unless there was yet another/third "available" Mary Chew in the correct age range in this overall Chew family, it would appear that John Landrum did NOT marry a Mary Chew.Like you, I have also seen the wife of John Landrum listed as Mary Buckner, but I have done no true independent research on that whatsoever.
In 1729, John Landrum sold land in Spotsylvania Co., VA to a Robert Thomas of Caroline Co., VA, and John's wife Mary released her dower. Is this when John Landrum and his wife Mary left VA?This land had originally belonged to Larkin Chew.Do you agree that the father of the John D. Landrum who married Mary was also named John D. Landrum (i.e., did both the father and the son truly have the middle initial of "D"), and do you agree that the older/first John D. Landrum married Jane Evans?Do you agree that the first/older John D. Landrum was a brother of the James Landrum who married Mary Brown in Essex Co., VA?
In 1727, a William Brown(e) sued John Landrum in Spotsylvania Co., VA for his "freedom dues."This means that William Brown(e) had been an indentured servant for John Landrum.Per my review of related information on the internet, by the 1700s, indentured servants were frequently craftspeople/artisans (as opposed to "very poor hard laborers," as had typically been the case back in the 1600s).Do you have any idea who this William Brown(e) was?Was he a member of the same overall William Brown(e) family of Essex Co., VA into which John Landrum's close relative James Landrum had married back in 1696 (I think it was)?
Around 1728, a William Brown was the witness on a deed in Spotsylvania Co., VA when Leonard Holmes sold some land to John Quarles.Leonard Holms actually lived over in Caroline Co. VA (the same part of that county as the above Robert Thomas who was associated with John Landrum), as did a Roger Quarles, who was a member of the same overall family as the above John Quarles. There was then a William Brown in Caroline Co., VA by at least 1735 (and he served on a couple of juries there with the above-referenced Roger Quarles in 1736).I SUSPECT that this was the same William Brown(e) who had been in Spotsylvania Co., VA earlier....but I certainly do not know for sure if he was truly a member of the same Brown family as the Mary Brown who had married James Landrum in Essex Co., VA back in the 1690s.
Mrs. Mary (Brown) Landrum (daughter of William Brown "Senior" and his first unknown wife.....the second wife of William Brown "Senior" was Elizabeth Allen, and his third wife was a Mary Unknown) had a brother (or half-brother) who was named William Brown "Junior," and it seems certain that William "Junior" fathered a son who we can call William Brown "III."PERHAPS William Brown "III" was the one who was in Spotsylvania Co., VA in the 1720s....but that is "pure speculation" at this point in time.
The William Brown in Caroline Co., VA in the 1730s seems to have been the same William Brown who was then in Amelia Co., VA by 1740 (per various clues). That William Brown in Amelia Co., VA was closely associated with a John Davison there, and John Davison had previously lived in Spotsylvania Co., VA from the early-1720s through about 1743.John Davison had been taken "under the wing" of the wealthy James Taylor family of Essex/King and Queen/Spotsylvania/Orange Co., VA, and, as I recall, that Taylor family also married into the Larkin Chew family (so there are all kinds of "connections" here).Comments/questions?
