Re: 1800s Silas Langley/Longley - USA (MA-NJ-TN-KA-CO?)
I did visit that website and agree it's no help as to this question. After all, it's not about Langleys or Longleys, only as "in-laws")
Wish I could recall the source that said Silas Langley or Longley of Kansas was b. 1825 (not 1830) in Tennessee, and that Elizabeth's maiden name was Langley (relationship, if any, not stated, but she was about 10 years younger, as I recall, making me wonder if Silas had an earlier marriage.)
Maybe someone can help by consulting the relevant Tennessee and Kansas Census, to see what states of births are mentioned for the respondents and their parents.
However, as to the Jacob connection, someone wrote to me:
"I have a photo of Silas and Elizabeth (Langley) Longley (taken about 1900 in Easton,KS). And another(1900 in Holton, KS) of an Uncle Jake of ((and?)) Elizabeth." He notes that the name Polly seems to substitute for Elizabeth another place.
He continued, "I suspect he is brother of Silas? Or is Elizabeths last name actually Longley and Uncle is blood related? Silas and Elizabeths daughter Mary Francis (Longley) Hill was baptized in 1901, which record lists Silas Longley and Elizabeth Langley as her parents."
Unless you have discovered all this since I last visited this Forum, I trust this is good news, Ellie and others.
PLEASE, fellow members, check Kansas and Tennessee Census to see what sense this all makes, and tell us if you spot any NJ, PA or other northern states mentioned for earlier generations. -- Dolores in DE (and from NJ)
