It's always nice when someone takes the time to help with the genealogy., No I didn't know that, however, I have seen the information you speek of. I have seen Louis Langlois listed on his obituary records as "Anglos". That was the first time I had ever seen it spelled that way. The children in the Obit are not spelled that way though. "Laglois".
It also explaines why I keep finding Georges wife listed sometimes as Daoust/Dault.
I have the same problem with my maiden name. "LeDue" Originally it was spelled "Leduc", but we know he changed the spelling because people pronounced it "The Duck" and Georg Leduc my G-Grandfather didn't like it.I find him listed in the 1900 Census though as "widowed" and the spelling is "LaDuce" which I think was his attempted at explaining the original spelling of "Leduc" and that he changed it to "Ledue" and the short "A". "ah" sound. He spoke french, and came from Valleyfield,Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
My husband's family is "Chevalier" from the Channel Islands. I think the same is true here.
