This is a long shot but my Langfords are from Alabama and then to Mississippi then to Texas.F. M. LANGFORD

First Generation
1. F. M. LANGFORD was born about 1838 in Alabama.
F. M. LANGFORD married Sirene B. CASTRO about 1859 in Prob Mobile County, Alabama. Sirene was born about 1842 in Prob Mobile County, Alabama.
They had the following children:
2 M i. T. C. LANGFORD was born about 1860 in Mobile County, Alabama.
3 M ii. John S. LANGFORD was born about 1865 in Paris, Lafayette County, Mississippi.
4 M iii. LANGFORD was born 11 Nov 1866 in Paris, Lafayette County, Mississippi.
5 F iv. Malissa Alice LANGFORD was born 23 May 1868 in Paris, Lafayette County, Mississippi. She died 21 May 1926 in Temple, Harris County, Texas and was buried 22 May 1926 in Hillcrest Cem., Temple, Harris, Texas.
Malissa Alice Langford was only about 14 years old when she married Moody, who was about
29 years old.Malissa "Alice" left her family about 1900, (she divorced Moody) her two little
boys were about 2 and 5.Her older children were newly married, one of her daughters who
had just married took care of the Wyatte and Ernest. She left and married James Armp
McCreary, they lived in Temple Texas. The story goes that the children had a choice to go
with her but they didn't like her new husband.
James and Malissa Alicehad 2 boys, Clarence and Curtis. In her obituary in the Temple
Daily Telegraph dated May 22, 1926, it reads:"Mrs. J.A. McCarley, aged 57 years, died at a
local institution of surgery Friday morning at 10:30 after an illness of several months.Mrs.
McCarley had lived in Temple for the last fifteen years. She is survived by her husband and
six children, four boys and two girls:Preston Stuard and Wyatt Stuard of Corsicana, Mrs. D.D.
Nelson of Corsicana, Mrs. Val Wyley of Corsicana and Clarence and Curtis McCarley of
Temple.Three sisters also survive:Mrs. S.M. Patrick of Fort Worth, Mrs. Ed Castro of
Corsicana and Mrs. W.T. Baker of Waco, and two nieces who will be here for the funeral:Mrs.
G.F. Dresner of Waco and Mrs. George Cowart of Waco.Family services will be held at the
family residence, 918 South 17th street, Saturday at 3 pm, conducted by Rev. C.G. Brewer.
Internment will be in Hillcrest."(It is interesting to note that her son Ernest is not mentioned
probably because he was in California and was not present at the funeral.)
Malissa married (1) Moody Burt STEWARD, son of William STEWARD Jr. and Salina TEDFORD, about 1882 in Prob. Lee County, Mississippi. The marriage ended in divorce. Moody was born Mar 1853 in Prob Hamilton, Monroe County, Mississippi. He died 1909 in Bazette, Navarro County, Texas.
From Robert Stuard "Red":The story goes that Moody had to get out of Mississippi fast, the
Mississippi Rednecks got a hold of 13 Yankee Carpetbaggers who were stealing from them
and hung them.(Remember this was a time of terrible war in our own country and lots of
terrible things happened). The Feds were after the Rednecks so Moody rode out of Mississippi
on horseback, he was a big hunter and took his dogs with him.He met up with his wife in
Texas and the family relocated in Corsicana TX about 1893.Moody did not read or write so
Alice, his wife, unknown to Moody, changed the spelling of their last name to Stuard (I assume
so he couldn't be tracked down).
From Inez (Nelson) McCall:Moody raised cotton and had some cattle.Inez remembers her
mother telling her as they drove by a little cemetery in Bazette, that, that was where her
grandfather (Moody) was buried.Moody told his children that he walked fivemiles to school
in the mud, barefooted.Moody died with symptoms of Diabetes.
Red Stuard (Robert Moody Stuard) says that his grandfather (Moody) had a brother in a war.
(I believe that was Jasper Steward but am not sure).
I (Kathy (Stewart) Longhurst) have found Moodys birth as 1855, thats from my family.1853,
from another source and 1857, from the Wylie family.
Malissa also married (2) James Armstead MCCARLEY, son of Thomas Adam Bomar MCCARLEY and Mary M. DEMONEY. James was born 14 Aug 1875 in Campbell County, Georgia. He died 7 Oct 1957 in Temple, Texas.
Married a third time to Emily Reinhardt.Reinhardt was her previous husbands name.
