They were married 1 Jan 1875 in Napanee, Lennox & Addington Co., Ontario (Where my Gt. Grandfather Herbert Stephen Pringle was born).They show up in the 1881 Census South, New Westminster, B.C.: Jessee, a farmer Wesleyan Methodist,Age 40; Jessie his wife Church of England, Age 26; and two children Caroline, Age 4 and Ethel M., Age 2;They all list there ethnicity as English.JESSE SHIBLEY LAPUM's PARENTS were variously Chancy, Chauncey,Lapurn, or Lapum born 1818 Earnestown, L&A County, Ontario who died 1900 'of' Napanee, Ontario AND Catherine Shibley born 13 Mar 1823 Portland, Frontenac County, Ontario.They were married 08 Oct 1838 and appear on the 1852 CENSUS IN PORTLAND tsp all Wesleyan Mehodist all born in Ontario (Canada West): Chancy a farmer, Age 34; 'Catherin' Age 29; Jessee 11; *Lavina 9; **Maryann 7;
and Edwin Age 4.They appear in the 1881 CENSUS IN NAPANEE TOWN, all born in Ontario, of German ethnicity and C. Methodist: Chauncey LAPURN, Age 64, retired farmer; Catherine LAPURN, Age 57; Edward LAPURN, Age 33, an Insurance Agent; Maggie LAPURN, Age 30; Charles H. (Hicks) Age 2; Frederick Age 7 months born in September (1880).I believe: *Lavina Jane (b 1843) married David Bicknell on 10 Mar 1863 in Frontenac County, Ontario and they had Claytonand Lucinda in Ontario and 'Freddie', Willie, and Alfred, maybe in the "States" and Bertha Dec 1874 California (she died 11 Jan 1948 in Marion Co., Oregon as Mrs. Forest A. Foarnam); **Mary Ann (1845) married William Thomas on 14 Aug 1861 in Frontenac County Ontario and had three children Lavina J. 1863; ***Edwin William Dec 1872; and 'Frankie' 1878.. There is an Edwin Thomas in the New West, Chilliwack Municipality census, a jeweler in 1901 & 1911 Census, but stating ethnicity as Welsh in 1911.... There is also an Edwin William Thomas born 1872 born in Ontario who died 8 Apr 1941 in Essondale, B.C.; ***Edwin or Edward Smith LAPURN or LAPUM b 15 Dec 1847 Portland, Ontario who died 16 Jan 1926 in Napanee, Ontario married Margaret 'Maggie' Duncan, the daughter of Charles and Mary Ann, in Odessa, L&A Co., Ontario. They appear on 1901 Census in Napanee; in L&A Marriage Registrations for 1873 in Odessa.Edwin Smith 'Louisiana PUM', widower, Age 78, born Portland, Dec 15, 1847, Town Treasurer, son ofChauncy Lapum and Cathererine Shibley... informant Hartley Lapum of Napanee, his son.
CHAUNCY LAPUM's PARENTS appear in 1852 Addington Co., Ontario census as LAPUICE, Robert, farmer, bp York State, Quacker, Age 67; LAPUICE, Mary, Age 75; LAPUICE, Nelson, a farmer, bp Canada West (Ontario),of no creed, Age 29; Their eldest, (1) Philitia (1800-1835)might be the one who married Martin Rutter Switzer 5 Oct 1830; (2) Nancy (1805-1879) married Freeman John Burleigh or Burley (1802-1857) & had Robert Sampson, Sandford John, Peter, and Freeman.; (3) Maria (1806-1851) married Sidney Warner (1807-1886) & had i-Ferdinand & ii-Eliza who both died young, iii-Harvey (1833) who died without children far as seems known, iv-(Justice of the Peace) Damon Stephen (1834) m'd Georgina Walker; and the other children, Robert, twins Martha & Mary, Albert, Victoria and Ann Marie all died in infancy or very young; (4) Stephen (my ancestor) (1810-1893) m'd Jane Darling dau. of John Nelson Darling and Phoebe Richmond (NOTE: The Mayflower society has a proven lineage for a Delilah Darling dau. of a Phoebe Richmond (a daugher of Jane7 Bowerman, Ichabod8Bowerman, Jane9 Clifton, Dority10 Burgess, Patience11 Freeman, Rebecca12 Prence, Patience13 Brewster, Elder William14 Brewster born 1567 Scrooby and died 1644 in Plymouth, Massachusetts))... Stephen Lapum and Jane Darling had nine children, Hix or Heicke, Lovina or Levina, Mary Ann, Eliza Jane (my Gt. Gt.
