Thanks Britt.Genesee records are also difficult because many of them were burned, I believe.I have a longhand transcript of John Laramy's will, but not an actual copy - which I would appreciate.

I do think George Laramy was John's brother. Both were sons of William Laramy of Devon. Here's what I have been able to learn of this William:

WILLIAM LARAMY was apparently baptized 6 Aug., 1758 in Bratton Fleming Parish,, on the western edge of the Exmoor, the great moor of North DevonHe married in Landkey, Devon on 29 Mar. 1785 Ann Ireland, but does not seem to have lived in that parish.Instead, he settled in Fremington, just down-river from Barnstaple, where he had children born from 1786-1798.He then moved to Bishops Tawton and South Molton, Devon. He is likely the William Laramy whose death was recorded in Barnstaple District, Devon September Quarter, 1837.Issue:

i. Sarah, bp.19 Mar. 1786 Fremington
ii. William, bp. 19 Aug. 1787 Fremington.Married in North Molton on 2 Mar. 1818 Mary Norrish. He may have been living in Marwood, Devon in 1871, aged 80, with wife Maria.Issue:
i. William, b. 7 Sep., bp. 28 Sep. 1820 Barnstaple Wesleyan.Married North Molton 1 Jan. 1849 Ann Gough. He may be the William Laramy, age 59, living in Lebanon, St. Clair Co., Ill. in 1880.
ii. Mary, b. 6 May, bp. 9 June 1822 Barnstaple Wesleyan.Mar. North Molton 1 Apr. 1846 Joseph Yendle
iii. Eleanor, b. 11 Apr., bp. 23 May 1824 Barnstaple Wesleyan
iv. John, b. 17 Feb., bp. 12 Mar. 1827 Barnstaple Wesleyan.Married Sophia Dascombe 1 May 1849 in North Molton and came to America in 1849 (notice in Laramy Genforum).Apparently living in Cottage Grove, Washington Co., MN in 1880.
iii. John, bp. 15 Feb. 1789 Fremington, Devon, died Batavia, NY 2 Oct. 1874, mar. Elizabeth ______
iv. Ann, bp. 28 Dec. 1790 Fremington. She may be the Ann Laramy who mar. in Arlington, Devon 24 Mar. 1816 William Latham
v. Philip, bp. 11 Aug. 1793 Fremington, mar. (1) Ann Warren, and (2) N Molton, Devon 29 Aug. 1826 Lydia Yendell.Moved to Leroy, Genesee Co., NY in the 1830s, and thence on to Wisconsin.
vi. George, bp. 31 Dec. 1795 Fremington.Apparently of Genesee Co., NY in 1850, aged 55with wife Louisa, no children at home.
vii. James, bp. 22 Feb. 1798 Fremington.May be the James Laramy of Westleigh, Devon on 1871 Census, farmer, aged 76 – although his birthplace is shown as Marwood .This would be the James Laramy who died in Barnstaple District March Quarter 1882, aged 88.A James Laramy of Dolton married in Fremington on 6 July 1835 Elizabeth Williams. They had
i. Charles Williams, bp. 7 Aug. 1836 Dolton, Devon
viii. Samuel, bp. 1 Jan. 1801 Bishops Tawton, d. 7 Mar. 1802.
ix. Joseph, bp. 4 Mar. 1806 South Molton.Probably the Joseph who had by wife Elizabeth
i. Elizabeth Lakeman, bp. 14 July 1833 Ilfracombe

This William was the son of William Laramy (bp. 24 Aug. 1719 Shirwell, bur. 9 Jan. 1797 Fremington), who mar. in Shirwell 14 Oct. 1744 Grace May.He was in turn son of:

William Laramy, born around 1690, bur. Shirwell 18 Oct. 1765, mar. Shirwell 20 Apr. 1718 Mary Bale.

Beyond this the lineage is hazy - but William (b. 1690) might be a grandson of a William Laramy who was in Shirwell by 1628 with a numerous family).Earlier we find a Thomas Laramy with a numerous family in nearby Georgeham, Devon by 1554.

I would be glad to send you a full copy of my notes. My mail address is 301 Ray Rd., Chapel Hill, NC 27516
