I am a descendent of of Peter Larew and we THINK my husband is a descendent of Ann Shields.I just celebrated 4th of July at the Larew Farms in Hans Creek, WV. (They've farmed the same lands for 200 years.)

The reason for all the confusion is that he was Peter Larew III, son of Jacob Larew II and Mary Fortnair (listed more often as Fortner). Mary Fortner's parents were Banjamin Fortner and Isabella Douglas. Jacob Larew II is descended from Sybil Lambert and Abraham Larew III.A. Larew III is the son of Peter Larew and Elizabeth Cresson.

Re: Ann Shields (Larew), she is buried alongside Peter at Hans Creek Cemetery.We just returned from Lexington, VA and have started unravelling all the Shields records which are there.There is a John Shields and a John Shields, Jr. listed as original settlers and shown on the Borden's Grant map. Many Shields were fairly prominent in the area throught the early 1900s.Another Shields group from the county moved from Rockbridge county (formerly part of Augusta Co.) to Tennessee in the Cade's Cove area and are listed in numerous historical acounts.
