Hi Stephanie

My ancestors also hail from the Benfleet area of Essex and I have traced them back to gr. gr. grandfather Edward, b. 1796 in Hackney, Middlesex (or possibly neighbouring Bethnal Green, Essex.he married twice, firstly to Susannah who died in childbirth in 1836 & secondly to Maria Cook on 8th sept. 1836 at The Parish Church, St Pancras, London. They had 8 children that I know of, Charles, Henry, Caroline, Albert Edward, Frederick, Julie-Ann, David & Emma in that order.Pretty well all of them were born in the parish of N. Benfleet between 1838 & 1867. Henry was my gr. grandfather (b. 1839) and he married Ellen Richardson on 28th Sept. 1861 at the Baptist Chapel, Rayleigh, Essex. They had 4 children that I know of but undoubtedly there were more. Their 2nd son Herbert b. 1879 in Pitsea, Essex was my grandfather. The other 3 I have found so far were Charles, Martha & David.

Hope this is of some help.Don't forget the spelling changes frequently, ie. Lazell, Layzel, Layzell etc - just to make tracing that little bit more challenging!

Regards
