Sir John Leigh, born in 1530 in England and died June 13, 1605 in England married in 1583 in Shropshire, England to Joyce Romney, born in 1557 in Alevely, Shropshire, England.They had at least 2 children:Richard Leigh and William Leigh.I will expand on William.
William Leigh was born in 1588 in England and died March 22, 1652/53 in James County, VA.he was said to be one of the settlers of VA.He married in 1613 in Charles Co., VA. to Mary Dawkes, born in 1578 in Charles Co., VA and died in 1653 in James Co., VA.They had at least 2 children:Thomas Leigh, born March 1613/14 in Rusper, Sussex, England and died in 1646.William Leigh, Jr., born 1623 in Charles City county, VA and died in 1663.William married in 1649 in Charles Co., Va. to Catherine Ann Ironmonger, born in 1624 in Charles Co., Va.William, Jr. and Catherine had at least 4 children:James Lea, born 1649 in Charles Co,VA; Francis Leigh, born 1651 in Charles Co., VA; Allister Lea, born 1652 in Charles Co., VA.and William Lea, born 1654 in New Kent County, VA. He became a Colonel.He died July 14, 1703 in King and Queen County, VA.He married in 1675 in King and Queen cou., VA to Mary Green.Colonel William Lea and Mary Green Lea had at least 5 children:Phildelphia Lea, born 1680, married William Ballard; another daughter (name unknown), born 1684, married William Valentine Ware; Mary Lea, born 1679, married William Haines;John Lea, born 1677, died 1729, married Ann Taylor;William Lea, Jr., born 1682 in New Kent Cou, VA; died March 10, 1784 in King and Queen County, VA.Married in 1705 in King and Queen Co. to Frances Major, daughter of William Major [william was sure a popular name!]
William lea, Jr. and Frances Major Lea had at least 5 children:Elizabeth Lea, born 1717; Francis Lea, born 1726; John Gabriel Lea, born 1720, died Sept. 1781; Sarah Lea, born 1717, married twice:William Sargent, George Penn;and James Lea, born 1707 in VA, died June 2, 1788 in Caswell Co., VA and married in 1731 in Stony Creek, King and Queen county to Anne Herndon, daughter of Edward Herndon and Mary Waller.Anne was born in 1706 in VA and died in 1777 in Caswell co., VA.James Lea and Anne Herndon Lea had 9 children that I know of: 1) Luke Lea (later, Rev. Luke Lea, Sr.), born Dec. 26, 1739 in King and Queen co., and died May 4, 1819 in La.He married May 4, 1759 in Caswell Co. to Elizabeth "Beautiful Bet" Wilson.AFter her death he married Nancy Roberts Johnson.
