Thanks for your postings about William Ledbetter of Chowan County, NC.
The book "LEDBETTERS FROM VIRGINA" indicates on page 33 in part the following about a William Ledbetter, born 22 Mar 1740 of Bristol Parish, Prince George Co. VA, youngest son of Richard and Hannah Ledbetter:
Children of William:
47. Coleman b about 1762 in Brunswick Co, Va, d after 1826 in Guilford Co, N.C. to which county he moved that year with his three sons.
48. John b about 1765 in Brunswick Co, Va, probably d about 1810 in Chatham Co.No further record.
49. William b about 1775 in Chatham Co, N.C. No further record.
50. Alsey b about 1776 in Chatham Co, N.C.8 Aug 1808 Alsey was deeded land in Chatham Co by his grandfather William. Perhaps he is the same Alsey who, with Patsy Bright his wife, while residents of Harden Co, Tenn,in 1839 gave power of attorney to Ambrose Forshee recorded in Chatham Co, N.C.No further record.
51. J. Luther b about 1778 in Chowan Co, N.C. No further record.
Notice that #51, J. Luther is reported to have been born abut 1778 in Chowan County, NC.If so William would have had to moved from Chatham County, NC to Chowan County, NC. This seems unlikely as this William Ledbetter died in Chatham County, NC.I wonder if the authors of this book may have confused or mixed two different William Ledbetters.
I have a Joel Ledbetter, wife Lydia Keaton, both born about 1777 in NC who resided in Montgomery and later Stanly County, Nc by county formation.I have wondered if this Joel could have been J. Luther Ledbetter.
