Re: Cherokee Indian Heritage
Hi Mike, Yes, I know we are cousins through the Garrett/Brown lines.I will tell you what little I know of Sally Lee Nail.It very well could be that we are related that way too.Seems a bit much that we both have Lee women of the same time frame who are Cherokee.
Sally Lee was b. in SC in 1793.( Someone said that part of SC used to be NC)I don't know.By 1813 Sally Lee is in Roane county, TN.I don't know when she came to TN, only know she was b. in SC.In 1813 Sally Lee m. Aquilla Nail, son of Nicholas Nail and Mary Ann Whitefield. That's the first time I ever find Sally.Next time I find her is in the 1850 Benton co. AR census. Now, Aquilla is listed from about 1831 or 32, so I know Sally is there, in Benton co. as well. She must have died around 1854 or 55, and is buried in Benton co. AR, down near Lowell, AR somewhere.I have looked and looked, but could never find her parents, or sibs. But the story remains.Sally Lee was a Cherokee Indian, and supposedly 2nd cousin to Robert E. Lee.This I doubt. There is a man named Kenneth Walkky?who submitted some info about Sally, saying the grandkids found out that grandma was an Indian, etc. Some info came from Roy or Leroy Carter in the early 1950's.I have played the Carter line too, but no sucess.Where was your Jenny about 1813, and did she come to AR too?Who were Jennies' parents?
Wouldn't it be crazy if we are cousins again??Let me know about your Jenny.
Aquilla Nail remarried about 2 more times. He ended up in Jackson co. Oregon, where his oldest son had gone several years before. That is where Aquilla died, having out lived 3 wifes.
