Y-DNA Testing & Groups at Ancestry.com - All Participants
David Lee here, Lead Administrator of the Lee DNA Genealogy Project hosted by Ancestry.com. Remember, I am a volunteer who is passionate about genealogy, not a paid Ancestry employee.
I am posting on this Forum to reach as many as possible concerning this change at Ancestry.com
Ancestry.com has informed me that the Y-DNA Program and the Myfamily.com Groups system will be shut down the first of September. The Family Tree Function and the research database on Ancestry will remain. An email will go out to active Ancestry Y-DNA members to the email address they have on record. Old address data will just go away.
Any new Y-DNA testing will occur at FTDNA via the Lee DNA Project administered by Gary Lee. I will continue to help everyone connect with cousins as I have in the past.
In order to preserve the Data in the Project, I have downloaded all of the Y-DNA profiles and have begun the process of updating the contact information for everyone.
We, the "Research Team" and the Henry Lee Society have been developing a website and strengthening the co-operation with Gary Lee that administers the Lee Project at FTDNA, in order to continue this effort; and we will.
Each participant and others with Y-DNA data on Ancestry.com can help in this effort.
If you are a Lee Y-DNA participant or a Sponsor of one on Ancestry.com, send me an email to [email protected]
I need your email address, your mailing address, phone number, Ancestry username, the name of the tested individual (or the test kit number). I know this seems like a lot, especially considering that I have to go through this with 333 members of the group.
I will be spending a good deal of time making sure the database is up to date before Ancestry pulls the plug. I need to be able to get back in contact with each of you as we roll out the upgrades to the new website that can house the database.
Gary Lee's team has developed a Y-DNA comparison site that will be linked to the Henry Lee Society Site. We will also have the capabilities to house family trees of group members for research purposes.
As always, you will be given the opportunity to determine how much information you want displayed in the new website.
Much of my time will be spent trying to salvage the information from people who no longer are "with us". So, anything you can do to make this easier for me will be greatly appreciated.
No-one is more disappointed than me with the decision that Ancestry has made, but, I must focus on what we can do and not on what we cannot do anything about.
Thank you for your support during this transition!
