Genealogy of the Couch Family
Written by the Couch Family Committee
Adel Iowa, 1916
A few years prior to the War of the Revolution three brothers, James, Samuel and Meshack Couch, landed in America from the shores of "Old England" During this war they resided in the state of Maryland.
We have no record of the families of James or Samuel. It is in Meshach that we are especially interested, he being the found of the branch of the Couch family to which we belong.
Meshach Couch was born Sept 8, 1743 in England. being of Scotch and English descent. On Dec. 20, 1773, he married Mary Welch, she was born April 16, 1758, in Marland.
To them were born Thirteen children:
Sally, april 16, 1775 married Thomas Stack of North Carolina.
Samuel, April 7, 1777
Charlotte, Jan. 19, 1779 Maried Thomas Rook of North Carolina.
Phoebe, Nove. 10, 1780 Married Jonathan Idings
James, Jan 25, 1783
Joseph born Oct 29, 1784
Mary born Nov. 21, 1786
Nathan born Dec. 8, 1788
John born Dec. 15, 1790
Meschach born May 28, 1793, married Elizabeth Mills in North Carolina
Piercy, born Aug. 8, 1795
Joshua, born June 7, 1797
Priscilla, born Sept 19, 1799
Meshach Couch died June 3, 1824
Mary Welsch Couch died January 11, 1832
There are no complete records of these 13 children of Meshach and Mary Couch except of Meshach Couch, the tenth child, whose descendant are the subject of this genealogy.
The complete listing of the genealogy is at the Indiana State Library Genealogy Division. I hope this helps someone.

In my copy of the book previously referenced, I show Meschach 2nd, son of Meshach Couch and Mary Welch, to have been born May 28, 1793. He was tenth of thirteen children. He married Elizabeth H Mills on January 25, 1816 near Martinsville, Battle County, North Carolina. He died March 19, 1858.
I am in possession of a book with the title "Genealogy of the Couch Family 1743-1916." It traces the descendants of Meshach Couch, born Sept. 8, 1743 in England. He emigrated with his brothers James and Samuel "a few years prior to the War of the Revolution." The book states that nothing is known of James & Samuel after emigration.
Meshach married Mary Welch (born Apr. 16, 1758) on Dec. 30, 1773. They had 13 chidren: Sally, Samuel, Charlotte, Phoebe, James, Joseph, Mary, Nathan, John, Meshach, Piercy, Joshua, Priscilla. This family lived in Maryland, then at some point must have moved to North Carolina-perhaps Guilford County.
I am descended through Meshach, Jr. I would be willing to share information with those willing to help me round out my Couch family tree. Many thanks!
