Leisebergs of DuPage County, Illinois
I'm looking for information on the Leisebergs of DuPage County, Illinois. With as many offspring as these three (probably related) families had, there must be numerous descendants out there, which is why I requested that GenForum establish this forum.
Louis Leiseberg was born in Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany in either 1824 or 1825.He married Sophia, who was five years his junior and born in the same location.Sometime prior to 1860 the couple emigrated to America, to settle in Wayne Township, DuPage County, Illinois.
Louis and Sophia had five children, all born in Illinois, all of whom except for the oldest were attending school in 1880:
1.William, born in October, 1860, a dairy farmer, married Bertha (born in April, 1866), had five children, all sons, as of 1900.
2.Lewis, born in 1861/62.
3.Sophia, born in 1867/68.
4.Louisa Caroline Dorothea, born on March 4, 1870, in Ontarioville, married Henry Christian Harmening on May 22, 1891, had eight children, died on November 9, 1961, in Elgin, Illinois.
5.Emma, born in 1872/73.
In 1874 Louis Leiseberg owned a farm in the village of Ontarioville in Wayne Township. The farm was a quarter section (160 acres), extending a half mile south from present day Devon Avenue and a half mile west from present day Church Street.
There were two other Leiseberg families living in Wayne Township in 1880, when Louis is reported as being age 55 and Louisa age 50.There was Henry Leiseberg, age 65, his 39-year-old wife Mena, and their six children, ranging in age from sixteen to four. There was also William Leiseberg, age 52, his 39-year-old wife Caroline, and their sevenchildren ranging in age from eighteen to three. Both Henry and William were also born in Hesse-Darmstadt, and are likely brothers or cousins of Louis.
I look forward to hearing from the descendants of these families.
