I was really thrilled to hear of this possible connection.
My father came to Texas at the beginning of WWII.His name was Oshier....but it had been changed from Auger. With searching we learned that my Great Grandfather was first a priest in Montreal, then married....His name was Auger. He moved with his wife to the United States. They had 7 children. One of these children is still alive and she says that she remembers her father, my Great grandfather, saying his father's name began with an "L" but since he couldn't pronounce it he dropped it....and just used the surname Auger.
We're hoping to find and prove that this was Lemaitre or Lemaistre.
Please feel free to write me if there is anymore I can tell you!
