There is a family here in the US that descends from an Abraham LeMaitre who came to Maryland in the middle of the seventh century.The name was soon changed to Lemaster (and Lemasters/LeMaster/LeMasters/Leymasters/etc.This family subsequently migrated to western MD, VA, WV, KY, IN, OH, AR, NC, SC, etc.I am a direct descendent of this Abraham who is likely to have come from the Jersey Isles.The KY Lemasters are often associated with the family Auxier, also, I assume of French derivation.Could the Canadian LeMaitre or Lemaistre family spring from a common root, or in fact, be the same family?
