Re: JAMES LEMON, Frederick Co, VA, dod 1757
I am researching the Chapman line.Lucy Chapman came to America from Ireland with her two brothers, George and William, ca 1740, according to a deposition in Deed Book X, Vol 22, page 335, Chester County, PA. Lucy Chapman was the wife of James Lemon (sometimes spelled Lemen). References: (1)Lucy's brother, George, left a will in Chester Co, PA, September&October 1757 which mentions the children of his sister, Lucy.....THOMAS LEMON, ELIZABETH PEARASS (sic), MARY LEMON AND WILLIAM LEMON. (2)James Lemon, of Frederick Co, VA in a will proved August 1757, had predeceased George Chapman, leaving a will that mentioned James' wife, Lucy, and children Thomas, William, Elizabeth Pearis and Mary.(Notice that the same children are mentioned in both wills.)
The aforementioned Chester County, PA deposition was by a Mary Mercer, widow of Edward Mercer....according to Lemon & Mercer researchers, Mary Mercer was Mary Lemon/Lemen, sister of James Lemeon.According to the deposition, many of this Mary Mercer's Lemon family also came to America from Ireland, some of them accompanying the Chapmans.
I was interested that you mentioned that Lucy would have been a second wife. I had nothing that indicated a first wife. So the first wife would have married James in Ireland?
