Hi Pete> Sorry it took so long to respond to your message.I spoke to my Aunt Rita, at 80, the youngest and the last of my father's family and gleaned additional Leo family information.
Let me try to lay out what I know coupled with what I've learned. My father was Anthony Leo (10.17.1913); his father was Joseph Leo (b. 4.15.1888); mother, Ida Lucarini (b. 4.15.1893).Joseph's father was Dominic Leo; mother, Amelia (I don't have her family name).Ida's father was Luigi Lucarini, mother, Christina Celli.
My grandfather (Joseph Leo) emigrated to the US twice. The first time was with his brother-in-law (Joseph Lucarini) to find jobs and establish themselves. They then returned (for whatever reason) to Santo Stefano and, as I remember my father telling me, told tales to friends and relatives, of boundless riches. After their second trip to the US, they sent for their wives and in the case of my grandfather, my father accompanied my grandmother.
I've had difficulty confirming arrival dates, etc. and must spend a bit more time doing the research.Ah yes, another project!
By the way, my aunt remembered the family name Iorio from conversations with my grandmother (Ida).
I visited Santo Stefano in 1987 and remember a large war memorial.I was also struck by the contrast between the old structures and the really bad construction of the '60s.The local priest showed me where the family lived.
I hope this helps.
