William Barton Stone Tippecanoe Lewis, Indianapolis, Indiana
I have hit a brick wall! I keep trying to find out something more on my grt-grt-grandfather, whose original name might help solve the mystery as to his parentage.
In 1987, I visited with a grt-aunt, (May LaVerne (Lewis) Dilley Blackburn, the only sister of my grandfather, Harold Charles Lewis, both children of William Barton Lewis, Jr.) who told me her grandfather was originally Named "William Barton Stone Tippecanoe Lewis". Aunt May said her grandfather dropped the "Stone Tippecanoe" from his given name, sometime later.
William Barton Lewis, Sr. was born 1840-1842, at Indianapolis, Marion Co., Indiana. By the 1850 US Census, he was living in Indianapolis, Indiana with his mother, Eliza. Lewis. He was in the Union Army during the Civil War. He married, in 1866, at Marion Co., Indiana, to Susan Anna "Susie" Wilson. I think she may have been married previously to Mr. Eamsley Warren. I need help proving that though.
Beyond this William B. Lewis, I know nothing. I am in hopes someone might be able to.
Thanks, Anthony Lewis
