William 'Bill' Light, 69, Big Stone Gap, VA, went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 26, 2010, after a long battle with cancer.
He was strong willed and fought to the end. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served in peacetime Germany. He was an employee of Southern States Co-op for over 30 years where he enjoyed working with the public.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jeff Light; his parents, Herbert and Ruby Light; brother, Herbert 'June' Light; and one sister, Sue Byrd.
Surviving are his loving wife of 49 years, Emma Jo Light; daughters, Jackie Poteet and husband Jack, Stacy Barnette and husband Josh, and Susann Demory and husband Eddie, all of Big Stone Gap, VA; six grandchildren that were the joy of his life, Brittany Brewer, Madison Gibson, Jonathan 'Jon Bill' Poteet, Sarah Barnette, Zachry Barnette, and Austin Demory; daughter-in-law, Mary Anne Light; and a very special friend, Sidney Lyons.
The family would like to offer a special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of Lonesome Pine Hospital.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., Sunday, February 28, 2010, at Holding Funeral Home in Big Stone Gap, VA.
The funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m., Sunday, in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Bill Hughes officiating.
Committal services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Monday, March 1, 2010, at the American Legion Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home by 10:20 a.m., Monday, to go in procession to the cemetery. Family and friends will the serve as pallbearers.
