Dear Cath,
We must be related. My great grandfather, Walter SQUANCE was the son of John SQUANCE & Barbara LILLICRAP. Walter was born at 13 Lower Batter Street, Plymouth in 1858. By 1881 the family was living at 10 Lower Batter Street - big move!
I have on file over 950 LILLICRAPS from Plymouth and the surrounding areas. Was it John Martin SOWDEN at Plymouth St. Andrew Church that she married? 29 Jan 1870?I looked at the 1881 census for her in Cumberland, and it gives an approx. birthdate of 1845/6 at Beer - I'm assuming Bere Ferrers. The most likely candidate I have is daughter of William & Johanna LILLICRAP, born 1846. She would be 1st cousin to Walter SQUANCE, niece of my Barbara LILLICRAP, and my 1st cousin, 3 times removed.
DO you have the marriage cert. giving Father's name & occupation?
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Deborah.
