Re: Samuel Azro Lillie b VT
I'm wondering if you established who Richard Lilly of West Rutland was.He died in 1808 and is buried in the Pleasant Street Cemetery.I believe (am guessing) that Phoebe was either Richard Lilly's wife or daughter, or both were named Phoebe.Phoebe marries a fellow called French, from French Creek, New York. (Her name is recorded as Phobe and/or Phebe, rather than Phoebe.)
Some years ago you tried to help me locate my Ancestor Alvin H. Lilly.I've since located him in in West Rutland, married to a Rachel Porter. They buried their first child in the same Cemetery.Unfortunately the name was recorded as "Silly" rather than Lilly...alas!
About 1832, Rachel(Porter)Lilly is recorded in West Rutland church records. Her family either moved to or were from Jericho, Chittenden, Vt.A Rachel Lilly dies there in 1842. I do not know if she is the same person as the first wife of Alvin H. Lilly or not.
In 1840, Alvin H.Lilly is living in Starksboro, married to Mary (Mercy) Anna Eddy. They have two girls Mary Jane Lilly born in 1837 (have no place of birth location) and later Alsina Ann Lilly, my direct ancestor, born in 1842.
The Deed for the purchase of land in Starksboro, states that Alvin was from Orwell, Vermont. There are two Lilly families there. One is headed by Chester (Charles) Lilly and the other is a family recently immigrated to Vermont from Scotland.I believe that my Alvin is related to Chester (Charles) Lilly.
Other names in my Vermont ancestors are EDDY, SMITH, HASKINS and also a French Line - CHOINARD (SWINIER, SWINYER, PERRIN, VALCOUR, BETTIS, LOUPE).
Should any of this 'ring a bell', I'd be deeply grateful for your information, help.
