Re: Samuel Azro Lillie b VT
There are two lines of Nathan Lillys who descend from George Lilly who was in Reading MA in the mid and late 1600’s.One line is from George’s second marriage. This line goes:George 1, George 2, Jacob 3, Nathan 4 b. 1729 who married Sarah Kingsley.Nathan and Sarah had a son Nathan, b. say 1766 – 1768.Nathan 4 died in 1801 in Windham CT and I don’t know of any evidence to suggest that he was ever in Vermont. His son Nathan 5 was married in CT in 1790 or 91 and had children born in CT, the first being born in June of 1791.He might have gone up to Vermont and then returned.
The other line of Nathans descends from the first marriage of George:George 1, Samuel 2, 3, Obediah 4.Obediah had a son Nathan 5, b. 1758 in CT.The next thing we know about Nathan 5 is in 1800 when he married, apparently for the first time, in CT.He had daughters born in CT in 1802, 1804 and 1809; Nathan died in 1838, place not stated, but his three children remained in CT.Nathan 5 had a brother, Emmons 5, who went to Vermont ca. 1792.Emmons had a child born in CT in 1789.Emmons went first to Dorset or Peru, VT, and from there to Bethel, where he settled. In 1832 when he filed a pension claim, he was living in Rupert, VT.Emmons named a son Nathan, but that Nathan was born in 1810, so can’t be the Nathan who was a neighbor of Richard Lilly. However, it does suggest that the two brothers were close.I think it a bit odd that Nathan 5, son of Obediah, didn’t marry for the first time until he was 40 or 41.Perhaps he went to Vermont, causing a delay in marriage.Perhaps he even married in Vermont, and it wasn’t recorded, or we don’t know about it.Sorry this is so vague and speculative.
