Greetings fellow Lincoln genealogist! My name is Todd Lincoln and I am from a Lincoln line that I’ve traced back to Bath, Maine. My Great x4 Grandfather was Samuel Lincoln (abt 1814-1847).I hoping someone in this forum may have additional information on the linage of Samuel Lincoln from Bath.I have conversed with the kind folks at the Patten Free Library’s Sagadahoc History & Genealogy Room and have come up with these clues.
Email from them: In brief, I have found the marriage records of Ann Babb and Samuel Lincoln. I have also found a genealogy that indicates that Frances Lincoln (1770-1834) had a son Samuel Lincoln to whom she referred in her will. Since Frances died an unmarried woman, I am assuming that this Samuel was illegitimate, although the dates stretch probability since she would have been 43 or 44 at the time of his birth. But not impossible, of course. [An 1840 Census of Bath shows a Samuel Lincoln who is between 40 and 50, more likely for Frances’ child. Although her will of 1834 request support for her child.] Property taxes indicated that a Samuel T. Lincoln lived in Bath, owing property in the area from 1841 until 1848, when his record had the addition of “Estate.” So those transactions appear to correspond with the dates of Samuel who dies in 1847….. We have not found undeniable proof that ties Frances’ Samuel to the Samuel that marries Ann Babb and owns property on South Street in the 1840s. But there seems to be only the one Samuel Lincoln in town, so it looks likely, but raises other issues.
My issue in this is the age of France’s Samuel and Ann Babb’s husband Samuel.
I have on file: The marriage intentions of Samuel & Anna Babb The Marriage record of Samuel & Anna Headstone image and info. on Samuel & Anna located in Kankakee, IL.
