Estonian Lindenau (and Linde) family
I realize that not everyone had or used surnames in the past, and when the surnames did start becoming adopted, sometimes families named themselves after the local farm or village or employment, or even adopted their employer's surname. How did we end up with a Lindenau name in Estonia? I do not know. However, according to church records, our earliest Estonian Lindenau (later spelled LINDE) was Jüri Lindenau, born on February 25, 1774, in the parish of Kodavere, Estonia.
Estonian history is closely tied with both German and Swedish history, so my guess is that at least the name is somehow connected to one or the other country, if not the family.
Let me know if you have any possible connection.
