The following is corrections/additional info about Adam Lingle, John Lingle, and Sarah Lingle, children of Casper Lingle.These three siblings married three siblings, children of Jacob Tipps, Catherine Tipps, Mary Tipps, and David Tipps, respectively.

Info on the Tipps/Tippong family:

Here is an abstract of the will of Conrad Tippong from Lincoln Co, NC.Note that Mathias Barringer was Conrad's stepson, son of his wife Margaret Bushart, by her first husband, Mathias Barringer, Sr.In the will, he is called Mathias Barringer, Sr., since he also had a son named Mathias.Conrad Tippong apparently had no children of his own.

Both Conrad and Jacob Tippong were Revolutionary War vets.Here are the abstracts of their pension files:

TIPPONG, Conrad, NC Line, S7729, applied 10 Feb 1833 Lincoln Co, NC aged 88, soldier was born 3 or 4 miles from Philadelphia, PA, lived in Lincoln Co, NC at enlistment.

TIPPS, Jacob, NC Line, Margaret, R10616, soldier married Margaret Grant [sic] (William Martin signed marriage bond with soldier 10 Jun 1778 in Lincoln Co, NC), soldier was in 1748 in PA, he lived in Rowan Co the part that became Lincoln Co at elistment and lived there until the end of the Rev, then moved to KY for 1 and a half years,then returned to Lincoln Co for 1 year, then movedto Burke Co, NC where he applied 26 Jan 1832 and soldier died there 3 Nov 1837 as shown officially or 5 Nov 1837 as stated by his widow, soldier and widow were married at the residence of Catherine Arney's step-father in Lincoln Co, NC (no relationship given), widow applied in 1844 in Burke Co, NC aged 81 and died there 1 or 14 Sep 1846 (both dates given), surviving children in 1853 were;

In 1853 Mrs Catherine Arney, age 91, made affadavit in Caldwell Co, NC and had went to school with soldier's widow, no relationship given.

You can order photocopies of the entire pension file from National Archives with the number, R10616, for Jacob Tipps.

Of course, Mary Tipps Lingle was not listed because she was dead by 1853.

I found an article on the Tipps family in "Heritage of Rowan County, North Carolina" on the Tipps family, but I'm sorry to say I forgot to photocopy it.The gist was that the father of Jacob Tipps (whose name I cannot recall) arrived in Philadelphia from Germany in the mid-1700s, that Jacob Tipps moved first to VA then to NC, and that all the Tipps in America descend from this one immigrant, Jacob's father.The name was originally Debon or Debong, which became Tepong, Tippong, and was finally shortened to Tipps.English clerks had a hard time distinguishing the sound of German Ds from Ts, likewise Bs and Ps.The ship record probably came from "Pennsylvania German Pioneers" so you should be able to find it there.

Adam Lingle (14 Feb 1784 - 27 May 1847), son of Casper Lingle - moved to Morgan County, IN where he died.Was in 1820 Census of Burke Co, NC.Several Lingle marriages in Morgan Co, IN.Married Catherine Tipps c1805 probably in Burke Co, NC.She was born c1784 and is shown still living in the 1850 Census of Morgan Co, IN, age 65, living with son Casper Lingle.She was the daughter of Jacob Tipps (Tippong) and Margaret Grunt (Grounds).

Could not find Adam Lingle in 1810 Census, not uncommon for young families with no land of their own yet.

The family of Adam Lingle moved from Burke Co, NC to Morgan Co, IN in late 1829 or early 1830.Right before the move, Adam's two oldest sons married in Burke Co, NC:

Adam Lingle, along with sons Alfred and John, were in the 1830 Census of Morgan Co, IN.John Lingle returned to NC (one of the few times I have ever seen that happen) and was in Lincoln Co, NC (next to Burke Co, NC) for the 1840 Census.John died before the 1850 Census and his widow, Sarah (Turnmire) Lingle, was in Caldwell Co, NC in 1850.Caldwell Co, NC was formed from Burke Co, NC in the 1840s.All of John and Sarah's children are listed in 1850 as being born in NC.If correct, that means John did not stay in Indiana long before returning to NC.Alfred Lingle and wife Elizabeth Bean ("Been" in the marriage record) moved from Morgan Co, IN to Newton Co, MO where they were in 1840 and 1850.

NOTE:Betty Crawford's posting has Adam Lingle married to Mary Tipps. With all due respect to Betty, this is incorrect.Adam married Catherine Tipps.Later, Adam's brother, John Lingle, married Mary Tipps, sister of Catherine Tipps.

Sarah "Sally" Lingle (c1799 - ), daughter of Casper.Married David Tips [Tipps, Tippong] 14 Dec 1819 in Rowan.David Tipps was the son of Jacob Tipps and Margaret Grunt.David's sisters, Catherine and Mary, were married to Sarah's brothers, Adam and John, respectively.David may have been visiting his sister, Mary Tipps Lingle, in Rowan Co, NC when he met Sarah Lingle.They married in Rowan Co, NC but then lived in Burke Co, NC before eventually moving to Washington Co, IN, where they were for the 1850 census.

6) Catherine (Lingle) Barger (age 82???), widow of John Barger/Berger/Barrier, Rowan Co, NC, p.226;married John Berger (c1744 - Apr 1824) on 11 Aug 1796, in Rowan or Cabarrus, according to a history of the Barger/Berger/Barrier family.] [NOTE:Her age given in the 1850 Census cannot be correct, if she really was the daugter of Casper, who born in 1754.She was probably born c1776.]
With family of son Charles Barger.Casper's daughter Catherine may have been the Catherine who married Daniel Hornbarrier, but I think that the Catherine who married Daniel Hornbarrier was Conrad Lingle's daughter.

7) John Deal and wife Mary (Lingle) Deal (age 57) in Rowan Co, NC, p.188.Married 29 Jan 1816 in Rowan.

8) That covers all the children of Casper Lingle from his will except his daughter Sophia Lingle.She married William Johnson in Rowan on 17 Apr 1834.I have not tried to find her in the census because there are hundreds of William Johnsons in the 1850 census.I did look in Rowan Co, NC but she did not seem to be there in 1850.
