Of course, Mary Tipps Lingle was not listed because she was dead by 1853.I found an article on the Tipps family in "Heritage of Rowan County, North Carolina" on the Tipps family, but I'm sorry to say I forgot to photocopy it.The gist was that the father of Jacob Tipps (whose name I cannot recall) arrived in Philadelphia from Germany in the mid-1700s, that Jacob Tipps moved first to VA then to NC, and that all the Tipps in America descend from this one immigrant, Jacob's father. The name was originally Debon or Debong, which became Tepong, Tippong, and was finally shortened to Tipps.English clerks had a hard time distinguishing the sound of German Ds from Ts, likewise Bs and Ps.The ship record probably came from "Pennsylvania German Pioneers" so you should be able to find it there.
