Lorrie-
Thank you and please let me know if you find out any additional information from anyone else on this intriguing question. My own research also suggested that Lydia--age 65 and living in Lyme, NY with what appear to be two grandsons, Orange Fleeno age 2 and Charles Liskum age 8 in the 1850 census--is the mother of Aurilla Black, and as you mentioned, Independence Black is listed in the 1820 census as living very near to William Liscum and has female household members of the appropriate ages for Lydia and Aurilla (and one other daughter, perhaps the one who marrieda man named Fleeno?) at this time. These seem like very probable links. Ancestry.com also has an entry for an Independence Black fighting with the 16 Regiment (STRANAHAN'S), NEW YORK MILITIA in the War of 1812.Given his unique name, his age in 1812 being appropriate, and this being a New York militia, this seems likely to be him.
I have been unable to find any information on William Liskum's wife's name, either given or family.Do you know how this other person was able to identify her as being named Elizabeth?
