Lizzie Livings, wife of A.G, Cairo, Alexander Co., Illinois
We would appreciate it if someone could find an obit for Leah Elizabeth (Lizzie Smith) Livings, b. 1856, to Augustus Smith Margaret Hartman Smith. She was born in Maryland. She married Albert G. Livings on May 20, 1877, at the First United Methodist Church, in Cairo, Alexander County, Illinois. All three of their children: Allie May, Florence and Elizabeth Alberta were born in Cairo.
The time frame for the lost of Leah (Lizzie Smith) Livings: Late June - before August 22, 1885
It is a sad story. From this edited bio, we learn the Livings story:
Cairo Citizen, Cairo IL, Nov. 19, 1885
A. G. Livings, died of consumption at Newton, Iowa, a few days ago. His wife and one child died but a few weeks since. He leaves two small children now doubly orphaned. His body was brought to Cairo and was yesterday interred at the Beech Grove Cemetery.
Albert G. Livings: 1853-Nov. 12, 1885, today consumption is called TB. In another obit, in Iowa, it read as though, when he arrived at Newton in August, he had already lost his wife and child, because only his two other children were mention.
Albert and Lizzie's last child - Elizabeth was born in June of 1885 and was christen on June 22, 1885. We believe that Florence and Elizabeth lost their mother and sister Allie May between June (after the birth) andbefore August 22, because Lizzie's name was not on Christening record, only the fathers.
Elizabeth and Florence were raised by their granmother Maggie Hartman Smith in Cairo, with the help of Albert's sister Allie Rogers.
We hope someone can help us fill in the blanks of this Livings story.
