There is record in England of the marriage of Jon Barfield and the daughter of a James Loadman in or about 1637. There is also record of the birth of their son Richard a year later in 1638, also in England. There is record of James Loadman in Nansemond Co, VA whose daughter, born about 1617 in Virginia, was married to a Jon Barfield. It is not inconceivable to think that James Loadman took his daughter back to England to marry and that they returned to Viginia after the birth of their first child. What I do find truly miraculous if not unbelievable is that this same James Loadman lived to the age of 103 or 104. His birth was recorded in England in 1591 and his will, dated 1694 and probated in April 1695 in Perquiman's Precinct,NC list his first two legatees as Jane Barfield(presumably his daughter) and Richard Barfield(presumably her son. Research done by a cousin back in the early 1940s and published in Our All Southern Family lists the wife of this Richard Barfield as Mary Loveman. I don't know where that information came from. Her book was accepted as gospel truth by much of my family and questioning the veracity of her findings was frowned upon, but I have found many errors. That Richard was the father of another Richard whose son Solomon fought in the Revolution and was married to Margaret Whitfield, the daughter of William Whitfield of North Carolina.
