Samuel LACHLAND, b. 5/28/1744, SCOTLAND
I have been researching the LOCKLIN family for over 20 years. My brick wall has been Samuel LOCKLIN, b. 8/8/1770, location unknown. I have always felt that he was born somewhere in GA. I recently had an email from Terry Locklin Moore, III, which has lead me to believe that my Samuel LOCKLIN is a son of Samuel LACHLAND. Of course there could be many spelling variants. This Samuel LACHLAND is a son of William (LAUCHLINE) LACHLAND. William and Jane came to the US between 1770 and 1772.
According to the information Terry forwarded to me, Samuel LACHLAND was born 5/28/1744 in Newton-upon-Ayr, Ayrshire, Scotland. His wife is unknown. His father, William (Lauchline) LACHLAND married Jane COOK. William also had a son named William, baptized 1/20/1754. I am speculating that this William (the son) is the man that married Agness STEVENSON in Rowan County, SC, 1769. The information I received said they may have come to the US between 1770 and 1772, but if William and Agness are a tie to William, he would have to have been in the US prior to 1770.
Samuel, b. 1744, had the following known children: Samuel - b. 8/8/1770, Martha - b. ab.t 1772, William Lawrence - b. 11/11/1774, John - b. 12/5/1782, and possibly Nancy - birth date unknown, married Joseph DOUGLAS in Columbia Co., GA, 4/14/1800. The death date and location is unknown at this time for Samuel, Sr. Samuel Jr. married Celia ZACHRY, 12/24/1797, in Warren Co., GA. Samuel and Celia are buried in the Locklin Cemetery, Walton Co., GA. This is where I have worked my line from, Samuel and Celia.
In Walton Co., GA, the Locklin Cemetery is on Locklin Cemetery Road and is intersected by Lockland Rd.I know this must be another spelling variant.Which is correct?Doesn't matter to me....as long as we can get all the information together!
Does anybody have any further information on any of these men?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
