Hello Dorothy,

I hope that you are still monitoring this forum.

I have been doing some comparitive lineages of some of the Person County Longs, and found that Ambrose Long was in Caroline County and Benjamin Long who also settled into Person County was from Spotsylvania County, Va. Both counties were formed from Essex, King and Queen, and King William counties. Spotsylvania County was formed first on 1 May 1721; Caroline County was formed next 1 May 1728. It strongly appears that these two shared more than common turf, as both families use the given name of Reuben. Ambrose had a son Reuben, Benjamin had a son Reuben and also a brother Reuben.

Benjamin's parents have been given as Broomfield Long and wife, Sarah Brown. Broomfield has several children attributed to him, but no Ambrose. I have a feeling that Ambrose may have been a descendant of a brother to Broomfield.

Benjamin Long's granddaughter, Martha Long, through his son, Reuben, was married to my half-GGG uncle, Jeremiah Satterfield. We share the same ancestor, William Satterfield, but through different wives. My connection was with William's first wife, Susannah Wheeler; his was through second wife, Naoma Lea.

I hope that this will provide some additional insights into the Long family.

Best regards,

John Fox
