The Long Surname DNA Project
I joined the Long Surname DNA Group through Family Tree DNA and was able to find some interesting connections.
Not only does it help you to find your your ancestors it helps other cousins find you as well.
You can find the main page here: (and read the project objective below)
The family tree page is here:
It's pretty cool!
Project Objective:During the colonial period a considerable number of Longs emigrated to New England, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Delaware. Most of these immigrants probably came from England, and Ireland (Scotch-Irish).Other Long immigrants to the colonies that arrived in significant numbers included French Longs (originally 'DeLong') and German Longs (originally 'Lang,' a large group of which settled in PA).The objective of the Long Surname DNA Project is to (a) refine these groupings and enable individuals with the Long surname to determine which group their Long ancestor belonged to, (b) enable Longs to establish contact with others who might have information to share, and (c) ultimatelyidentify the specific areas of Europe or elsewhere from which their immigrant Long ancestor originated.
This project is of interest primarily to Americans attempting to identify their immigrant Long ancestors, but Longs of allnationalities are urged to participate.Longs who can trace their ancestry to specific Long families and localities in Colonial America or Europe can provide a particularly valuable contribution to this project.Financial assistance may be available in such cases...contact the administrator. If you are a European Long see also iGENEA and compare prices.
