Re: Samuel Anderson Long
The Texas State Library has rolls of microfilm for "Republic of Texas Release of Claims".On roll 62 & 169, there is a lot for Samuel A. Long regarding his years of service. You can order it through interlibrary loan.I wrote down a few items just because I thought you'd find them interesting and would want to know more. This is unfortunately not a relative of mine -- wish I could find this sort of info on my own ancestors!:
Discharged 2/20/1839, Samuel A. Long was a Private then, 5'8" tall, born Marion Co TN, enrolled at New Orleans. 2nd regiment Volunteers of the 20th, cleaned muskets for 45 days, drove a team of wagons for 20 days, served in Capt. Leftwich's Co C 2nd regiment, was paid for service in 1838 (so may have been recruited as early as 1837), fought in Spring of 1842 under Capt. W. P. Jones against invasion of Vasquez, fought for TX against General Wall in Fall of 1852, was in Caldwell Co TX in 1855.
There is more but that is all I wrote down. You should really order and copy these priceless documents!
