Hi Sandy,
I was surfing the web specifically looking for longstreet history, and
came across your email asking about your dad. I am a first cousin to
you. My fathers name was George Ames Longstreet the oldest in our
immediate family. Your dad was his brother. My dad passed away in 1986. He was
born in 1902. My mother is still living (1915) and lives in a care
center in Edmonton. I have two brothers and two sisters. Jim the oldest is
semi retired and lives in Devon Alberta. I'm the second oldest. Ted
(just younger than me) lives in Edmonton Ab. Shirley the next oldest lives
in France. And Sandra the youngest lives in Edmonton. My wife an i had
two children Shaun the oldest who is a professor teaching at the A & M
University of Texas. Our daughter Michelle lives in Dubai (The United
Arab Emirates) with herhusband and our two grand kids Jake & Gigi.
Sophie & I also live in Dubai and have been for 30 years. I guess I will
retire one of these days back to Canada (Calgary area), but not as long
as
the grand kids are here.
Any way getting back to the Longstreet history, I will try to remember
all the names, but some of them escape me at the moment. I will also
try to put them in oldest to youngest. Dad (a farmer all his life)was the
oldest followed by Jack, Daisy, Eleanor, Frank, Everett, Kathleen,Jim,
Stewart, Ray, Marian. Most if not all the kids were born in a log cabin
in a place called Bagot Manitoba( a few miles west of Portage La
Prairie) (I can't remember the rest. I never did meet you dad, but I met
Frank when i was 15 (died a bachelor years ago), Jack ( a confirmed
bachelor) was a trapper and run the Hudson Bay trading post at Hudson Hope BC
before any roads were in. It's my understanding that he shot himself
when he got arthritis so bad in his knees he couldn't walk. Everett whom
I know very well was farming with his son Terry at Lone Prairie, which
is just out of Chetwyn BC. Daisy ( a great lady) was married to a
farmer in Manitoba (Walter kalberg) passed away long ago. Eleanor married a
farmer, but i believe she and her husband were in Ontario. She passed
away as well. Kathleen was married to a garage owner in Poplar Point
Manitoba. She was a great lady as well. Unfortunately she has passed away
as well. I only ever met uncle Jim once. He passed away long ago. He
worked in the mines in Sudbury Ont.
Ray recently passed away was living in Peachland BC. He farmed in
Manitoba went broke and i believed he was in the trucking business at
peachland for a few years. Marion i believe is still living and lives with
her husband (if he is still alive) just outside of Victoria BC. She knows
more about the family history than anyone. I don't remember her
husbands name, otherwise you could call her up.
Any way, i hope i was a little help to you. Send me an email when you
have time.
Best regards,
Wayne Longstreet
