Abner Lowell, Bucksport, Maine
Hello,
I'm looking for information on Abner Lowell (1735-1802) and wife Polly Ayer (1735-?) who lived in Bucksport, Maine.I have them listed as the parents of Nathaniel Lowell (1761-1826) who married Louisa Colson (1766-1810).
Some websites have this Abner being the son of Capt. Samuel Lowell (Gideon, Percival, Richard, Percival), but I have looked in "The Historic Genealogy of the Lowells of America from 1639 to 1899", by Delmar Rial Lowell, and he is not listed amongst Samuel's children.
There is also a Capt. Abner (Stephen, Gideon, Percival, Richard, Percival), who lived in Amesbury, MA and did not marry Polly Ayer.
There is also an Abner Lowell (or two) associated with Portland, Maine."Portland in the Past", by William Goold says of Capt. Abner: "His father came here [Portland] from Amesbury, Massachusetts. ... The son, Captain Abner, married Mercy Paine, a daughter of Jonathan Paine, by whom he had eight children. He died in 1828 at the age of eighty-seven years."It goes on to say that his son, John, "was the father of Abner Lowell, the watch-maker."
(I think http://www.mainememory.net/bin/Detail?ln=18086http://www.mainememory.net/bin/Detail?ln=18086 shows a picture of the watch-maker.)
I also read through some old threads in this forum that talked briefly about some of these Abners, but did not seem to reach any conclusions.
I wonder if in the 7+ years since those threads, the Abner riddles have been solved. And, if they have, could someone share?
Thanks,
Tim
