William, Middlesex, VA, 1600s. ??three wives: Elizabeth, Margaret and Mary??
I am interested in more information about a William Loyall who lived in Middlesex County, Virginia (Christ Church Parish) in the 1660s through the 1680s.Middlesex is in Tidewater VA, on the South bank of the Rappahannock River.
At an online website http://www.archive.org/stream/parishregisterof00chri/parishregisterof00chri_djvu.txthttp://www.archive.org/stream/parishregisterof00chri/parishregisterof00chri_djvu.txt
is the full text of "The parish register of Christ Church, Middlesex County, Va., from 1653 to 1812"
I found the birth record for a Margaret Loyall, daughter of William and Elizabeth (looks like 1669 but could be 1664?) followed by the marriage of a William Loyall to a Margaret Thompson in 1678, followed by the marriage of a William Loyall to Mary Massey in 1685, followed by the births of several children of William and Mary.
I am worling on a THEORY that all of these records concern just one man who was married three times. From my reading of history (colonial Virginia), life expectancy was not very long, and multiple marriages were rather common.Women, especially, died relatively young (e.g., in childbirth).
Therefore, I would suggest that this William Loyall was born before 1640, married three times, had children by at least the first and third wives, and then died after 1689 (but I doubt if he lived until 1716, which is the date of death some researcher has assigned on the Latter Day Saints submission).
My own interest is in the Thompson family of Middlesex County, and how they are connected to this William Loyall. Please contact me directly at [email protected].
