By Virginia Hoffman July 29, 2009 at 05:21:36

Obituary (Original newspaper clipping attached to framed photo, undated, unreferenced newspaper):
We are reminded by the death of Comrade Lucas that the defenders of the flag and country are passing from this life, and will soon all have gone to the great beyond.
George W. Lucas was born on Center county Pa., on July 4, 1843. He enlisted in Co. B., 148th Reg. of Penn., Vol. Inft., at the age of 19 years, and was with his regiment in the army of the Potomac in all the battles to the close of the war, except one year spent in the Andersonville prison. He was discharged at Harrisburg, Pa., on the 16th day of May, 1865. Soon after he was discharged, he came to Missouri and followed his trade as a miller, working in Jamesport in the Jones mill. He was married to Miss Mary Waldon at the home of Comrade Amos McClure June 1, 1875. He passed to his reward at his home in Trenton, Mo., Octoer 21, 1913. With his wife, three children -- James, Nellie and Homer -- look forward to that glad bright day when they shall meet him again in the land where falleth no tears, never to part any more. The funeral was conducted at the M. E. church in Jamesport by Rev.E. J. Gael, the M. E. pastor at Trenton, assisted by Rev. H. Crampton. The remains were buried at the Bethel cemetery, west of town, in hope of the coming of the Lord. May the comfort of Him who knoweth all of our griefs and the protection of Him who careth for the widows, guide all the feet of the children through this land of clouds and storms until summoned to the glad reunion-- is the wish and prayer of -- A FRIEND.

My notations:
1. Center is actually spelled Centre Co.
2. This paper obituary was saved by Mary Ann LUCAS FYE (w/o George FYE, Centre Co., PA), a daughter of James and Lucetta LUCAS, Mary Ann being my gg grandmother.
3. My belief is that this obit is for Mary Ann LUCAS' brother George W. LUCAS.

Other posted research states that this particular George W. LUCAS, was married to someone other than the person stated above, and that he died earlier. (one states 1911, another 1898). U.S. Census' for Missouri for 1880, 1900, and 1910 would confirm much of the above information.

I'd love discussions and sited sources that would say that this is or is not correct. Thanks.
