Thanks for the info but I don't think it fits...BAH! My Joseph James was born23 Nov 1864 inPalmyra, Macoupin, Illinois, United Statesto Levi James and Margaret Madison. He married Margaret Lucas in 1885 and I don't know how long they actually lived in SD. They werein Sioux Falls, Minnehaha, South Dakota 1893 when Robert James, my grandfather was born. It's possible that they moved shortly after that to Colorado and that is where Robert was in an NA school. Robert said at NA school he playedagainst the Blackfoot Indian girls. By 1900 Joesph James was a widower in Colorado and in 1910 he was in Chicago. These facts are verified. Our family story was that Margaret was at least half NA. My % of DNA NA supports this. However the latest info I have on her shows her being born 1868 in MO to Robert Lucas and Martha McMackin.I am wondering if her mother might not have been Martha but a Native American. Everything I find for Robert and Martha shows no indication of NA in either linage.. Plus so far I can't find any NA school that has a Robert Marion James listed. Once Margaret died his dad left Robert James with white relatives to raise and all written history of any NA linage was lost. Of course I may have the wrong parents for Margaret too. She died in 1897 in Denver before the final Dawes rolls.
