Lou Lucke was born, 8 Feb 1874, second of six children of Rudolph and Pauline (Hetrick) Lucke. Rudolph was born in Germany in 1849 and was brought to the US by his parents in childhood.He worked as a barber at Freeport, IL, and other cities.He died in 1892 in Chicago, IL.Pauline was born in Boston, MA.
Lou Lucke was educated in the public schools of Freeport, IL.His grandfather was a skilled shoemaker and under his direction Lou learned the trade.In 1900, Lou located to Butte, MT, and for one year was in charge of the shoe business for the Good Luck Clothing Company. Later he was a clerk for the Eagle Shoe Store at Kalispell, and transferred to the house at Great Falls, MT.In 1903, Lou came to Havre, MT, and opened and conducted a first class shoe store until 1909, when he put in a line of fine clothing.He invested in land and owned a ranch 18 miles from Havre, where he bred full blood grass colored Chesapeake dogs.
On 25 Dec 1903, Lou married Miss Hattie Thackery, born in Michigan.Lucke children: Alvin, Scott, Louis and Janet.
