William Lutes born in Pittsburgh/Allegheny Pa 6 Nov 1824 Died in Smithfield/Fulton/Ill Name in census also listed as Loots/Lutz (notes from my sister) There are 2 wives mentioned so we believe one died and he remarried: #1 Mary Harris of Pennsylvania #2 Catherine Vaughn of VIrginia William occupation: carpenter/farmer/mortician/furniture store owner. Sister says has a letter written by our grandfather James Ercell Roy Lutes stating that Catherine died when John C. Lutes was about 6 yrs old. Letter also mentions a younger daughter named Berthene which we are unable to find data on. Catherine and william are buried in Baughman Cemetery. my sister removed without permission all genealogical data from our mothers home last summer so I do not have any access to it...I quote what is on her web page...but I have found some of her data is incorrect and most of her "family tradition stories" are unknown to any family members other than her, if you get my drift. I am in the process of printing out cemetary burial lists for the following cities, as well as any online history which includes the family names, in order to clarify and correct data: Monmouth NJ, Cicero NY, Syracuse NY, Norfolk Va, Central City Ne...these are areas where large clusters of family appear...in addition I will eventually get to all of the 750+names in MY data base. I am working on the Eastwood and Pickrel lines at the moment but will get to the Lutes line soon. In the meantime, I have found that information is most accurate in the following priority: actual official documents (certificates, deeds, wills, tax records) cemetaries census history pages of localities LDS records may not always be accurate. I have found records from my family entered by family members with VERY wrong data. Message boards and ancestor web sites should be used as guides for further research...as they are often based on conjecture.
