Hi, I have Lyburns from Mochrum in my family line. My ggreat grandmother was Margaret Lyburn who married James MCGhee. Margaret Lyburn's parents were Walter Lyburn and Jane Galloway. I am trying to rembember if there is an Alexander Lyburn in my family notes I will need to recheck.
What I can tell you is there were two distinct Lyburn families in the area my Lyburns have a few brick walls but the other family researcher seems to have established a good base for his research.
I have been raised on the family tale of my ggreat grandmother Margaret Lyburn being French and it was held as a cause for pride. Yet I found that she was born in Mochrum. Her father Walter Lyburn was a mariner and died in 1866 in Liverpool and I have to say that they were a particularly short lived family Jane -his wife- did not long outlive her husband. and out of the five children only two reached adulthood. I recently had a posting from a Lyburn asking me what I am researching. This man had lived in the area of Wigtownshire up untill his teenage years and his memories were still fresh on his family. I did not get any reply from my postings to him but if you like I could send you on his email address......Yours Gene McGhee
