Rebecca, I have not done research on the Smith and Lyday descendants per se. My connection is that they are both in a book I coauthored, "Texas Burial Sites of Civil War Notables" (Hill College Press, 2002).
What I have is this:
Gideon Smith, born 4-10-1815 Madison Co., AL, s/o Nathan Smith and Martha Amonette. Died 2-15-1892. Buried Willow Wild Cemetry, Bonham, Section A, with a "Veterans" gravestone. Attd U of AL (resided in Lowndes Co., MS, when he entered the U of AL in 1836). Merchant and farmer in Fannin County, TX. Md. Mary E. Brownlee. Member, Constantine (Masonic) Lodge No. 13, Fannin. Delegate to TX Secession Convention. Captain, 9th TX Cav. Colonel, 2nd Cavalry Texas State Troops.
Name: Henry Washington Lyday
Civil War service:Lt. Col. and Adj. Gen., 4th Division, MO State Guard
Born: May 10, 1821, Sparta, TN
Died: Sept. 14, 1890, Bonham, TX
Occupation: Grundy Co. MO lawyer prewar. Postwar lawyer in Bonham.
Buried: Bailey Inglish Cemetery, Bonham
Anything you can add to the above would be greatly appreciated. Email me direct.
